A DAY AT THE ZOO

THE YEAR TWO CHILDREN HAD A FUN DAY OUT AT CHESTER ZOO

OUT AND ABOUT

THE RECEPTION CHILDREN HAVE BEEN HAVING GREAT FUN DURING THEIR FOREST SCHOOLS SESSIONS THIS TERM. HER ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF THE MUD FACES THEY MADE.

LITTLE VISITORS

Some ducklings came to visit us. It was such a hot day that some of them decided to go for a swim in the water tray!

 SPRING TERM 2017

COMIC RELIEF

The children donned red noses and red outfits for Comic Relief. Mrs Fairclough presented a special assembly with the help of some of the children in Year One and Year Two to tell everyone about the causes their fund raising would help to support.

AHOY THERE!

The Year One children really enjoyed their "Pirates" topic this term. At the end of the topic they presented an assembly about what they had been learning for their relatives and enjoyed a fun packed "Pirate Day", when they all dressed the part.

WORLD BOOK DAY

The children had an amazing day on World Book Day. They shared their favourite stories and used them to inspire some artwork. Some of the children from Wellfield Juniors read stories to them too.

There were some fantastic costumes to be seen - and some rather strange ones too!

To end the week with a treat we were thrilled to invite the illustrator Penny Neville Lee into school to do some masterclasses for our Key Stage One pupils and to present an assembly. Penny showed the children some of her illustrations and demonstrated how she draws some of her characters. The children all loved watching how Penny's drawings were transformed and they created some rather good ones of their own too.

ON BEHALF OF THE STAFF AND CHILDREN WE WOULD LIKE TO SAY A HUGE THANK YOU TO PENNY FOR OFFERING UP HER TIME TO US AND GIVING THE CHILDREN SUCH A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY.

NEW NURSERY BUILDING

We are thrilled to announce that we have received funding from the Education Funding Authority to build a second Nursery classroom. The new classroom will be an extension to the current Nursery building and is expected to be ready for September 2017. This will allow us to double our number of spaces available for three to four year olds from 26 to 52 children.

Please see the pictures of the plans below:-

AUTUMN TERM 2016

£8000 GRANT FROM TESCO!

Great news! Our joint bid with Wellfield Junior School for funding from TESCO's "Bags of Help" scheme has been successful and we are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded £8000. The funds will be used to establish a growing area on the school field. This will house an allotment with raised beds and a poly tunnel. The children from the infant school and the junior school will be using this area to grow food which will be used in the school kitchens.

UPDATES FROM NEPAL

Mrs Preston came to school to share the latest news from Nawa Asha Griha, (The Home of New Hopes), in Nepal. She gave us an update on Mukti, the little girl we sponsor, and showed us a video of the children celebrating Teacher's Day in Mukti's school.

On Friday, 18th November the children and staff came to school wearing spotty clothes and accessories and brought in donations for Children in Need. The children enjoyed lots of fun activities in their classrooms and we managed to raise over £200.

OVER £750 RAISED!

OUR MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING WAS A HUGE SUCCESS - WE MANAGED TO RAISE OVER £750 FOR THIS WONDERFUL CHARITY.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO GOT INVOLVED.

Our shoe collection for the charity Sal's Shoes was a great success. We have collected over 14 boxes of shoes for them. These shoes will be passed on to children who have no shoes of their own in other countries.

SPONSORED OBSTACLE COURSE

Mr Speers organised a sponsored obstacle race to raise money for Sport Relief and our sponsorship fund for Mukti, the little girl at Nawa Asha Griha, (Home of New Hopes), in Nepal. The children all did a great job and the money in so far has already exceeded £1400! Some of the children enjoyed the obstacle course so much they created their own in the playground afterwards.

  FOREST SCHOOLS AT WELLFIELD

Mrs Scanlon's class have been enjoying their Forest Schools activities this term. They particularly enjoyed making popcorn on the camp fire!

 WELLFIELD'S NEW ARRIVAL

The children in each class used their hand prints to decorate our baby elephant. The elephant will be part of the animal parade being set up in Sale town centre soon - look out for it by the Waterside Theatre.

THE ELEPHANT ARRIVES!

THE NURSERY CHILDREN STARTED THE BALL ROLLING

THE YEAR TWO'S WERE VERY BUSY

WHAT A TRANSFORMATION!

THANKS TO TWO BY TWO FOR HELPING TO RUN THIS PROJECT FOR US

WELLFIELD'S BIG DIG

The school received hundreds of saplings from the Woodland Trust. Lots of children and their parents from Wellfield Infants and Wellfield Juniors came along to help us to plant them. Our Forest School Playleader, Hayley Spann, came along to help with some of the children from the after school club too.

Over time the trees will grow to provide a natural boundary along the edge of the field.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR HELPERS.

POET'S VISIT

The children really enjoyed the visit from poet Matt Goodfellow this term. Matt did an entertaining performance in his assembly followed by some great poetry workshops in our Year One and Year two classrooms.

SNOW DAY IN SPRING!

The children were keen to make the most of the snow - and even managed to scrape together enough to make a few snowmen!

WORLD BOOK DAY - 3RD MARCH

The children all had a fabulous time on World Book Day. Many dressed up as their favourite story character and they all brought their favourite book to school to share with their friends.

Author and Children's Entertainer Lucia Davies came into school to do a book signing for her POD book. The book addresses the issue of bullying and Lucia had previously visited the school to present an assembly about it.

The Year 6 pupils from the junior school came to read to the children.

We finished off the day by watching a video of Michael Rosen reciting his "Chocolate Cake" poem whilst eating chocolate cake - YUM YUM!

What do children and young people say to look out for:

35% of the children and young people we asked think Minecraft can be risky. The top 3 concerns were:

  • hacking
  • strangers talking to you
  • bullying.

Why kids like it:

The top 3 reasons why children and young people liked Minecraft were:

  • challenging

Our advice to parents and carers -
Some parents and carers think that as long as they tell their child to only link up with people they know their child is safe. The reality is that strangers can still contact your child and they are likely to use a false identity. In addition to this it is unlikely that children this young are able to make well informed decisions about how to manage their interactions online.

The best way to deal with this is to not allow your child to engage in any online activities that allow them to interact with others over the internet.

LATEST NEWS FROM NEPAL

Mrs Preston has once again made the trip to Kathmandu to visit Mukti and the rest of our friends at Nawa Asha Griha. Since the earthquakes earlier this year there is still a lot to be done although thankfully most of the buildings at Nawa Asha Griha remained in tact.

Mrs Preston sent over this lovely picture of her with Mukti wearing the new flip flops and jewellery from Miss Graham. She will be coming to school when she is back in the UK to give the children an update.

The children at Nawa Asha Griha have been celebrating Diwali. In Nepal they call this Tihar. They had a competition to see who could create the best mandala. Here are some of the photos Mrs Preston sent us...

Mukti joined in too!

RECENT TRIPS

The Year two children had a great time at Dunham Massey. Go to the Year Two Page in the Children's section of our website to see what they got up to!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

This month the children are learning about black heroes who have helped to shape history. Miss Graham presented an assembly about Ruby Bridges. At just six years old Ruby was the first black pupil to attend the William Frantz Public School. Her story has now been made into a film. You can access the Powerpoint presentation from Miss Graham's assembly on our Newsletters page.
