An Introduction to the EYFS

This course is aimed at NQTs, teachers and teaching assistants who are new to the EYFS. It is also useful for subject co-ordinators who work in other Key Stages to support their understanding of what effective teaching and learning looks like for their subject in the EYFS.

This course will ensure delegates:

  • Know the key statutory and non-statutory documents for the EYFS in schools
  • Become familiar with the 7 Areas of Learning and Characteristics of Effective Learning
  • Develop a deeper understanding of how young children learn and what good EYFS practice looks like
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the assessment and planning cycle in the EYFS and its role in improving outcomes for children

 Audience  :  NQTs, teachers and teaching assistants who are new to the EYFS

Letters, Sounds and the New National Curriculum (Phonics)

This course is useful for student teachers, teachers and teaching assistants new to the EYFS and KS1. It is also useful as a refresher course for existing EYFS and Key Stage One staff and support staff in KS2.

This course links with Phases 1 to 5 of the Letters and Sounds phonics teaching programme.

It is intended to increase practitioners’ own knowledge and understanding of phonics and the English spelling system. In addition, it will offer guidance on how to teach phonics and early reading and assess pupils’ phonological awareness. This course identifies the links between the Letters and Sounds and other popular phonics programmes and the spelling requirements of the National Curriculum.

Audience  :  Student teachers, teachers and teaching assistants new to the EYFS and KS1

Date  :  2 half day sessions taking place on Tuesday 17th November and Tuesday 8th December

Time  :  1:30pm – 4:00pm

Leading the Way in the EYFS – EYFS Leads’ Development Programme

This programme offers termly CPD Networking events for EYFS leads, allowing you the opportunity to evaluate and develop the effectiveness of your leadership of this crucial key stage of learning.

Over the year we will be focusing on three key areas:

  • Evaluating teaching and learning in the EYFS
  • Securing effective leadership in the EYFS
  • Preparing for Ofsted in the EYFS

Audience  :  EYFS Leaders

Dates  :  This course is comprised of 4 half day sessions, taking place on Tuesday 20th October, Tuesday 19th January, Tuesday 16th March and Tuesday 15th June

Time  :  1:30pm – 4:30 pm
