Eco Warriors September 2023

Goal - to achieve the Eco Schools Green Flag Award

Wellfield Eco Committee showed how much they really value the importance of their school, the local environment and the world we live in.

We had our first meeting this half term.  After carrying out an environmental review to evaluate our school’s performance against some of the nine Eco topics, such as the biodiversity, environment, energy, waste, litter, healthy living and global awareness.  They have started to create an action plan.

The Eco Committee selected to work on waste and the environment (school grounds).  They created posters reminding pupils and staff to always put rubbish in the bins

I am so proud of how enthusiastic the Eco Committee was at wanting to spread awareness of environmental issues. They want to lead change both in our school and our local area by making small but significant changes.

The Eco-Committee Team

Our ECO Warriors are made up of pupils from each class from Reception to Year Two. Mrs Ahmed is our ECO Warriors Leader and she carries out this role with the help of Miss Graham, (Headteacher), and Mr Schora, (Site Manager).

Last year our ECO Warriors worked with our School Council members on an ECO project to encourage pupils and staff to reduce the amount of plastic they use and recycle more of their waste. They met with Cllr Tom Ross, and Cllr Andrew Western, Leader of Trafford Council, to discuss this work and find out what the council were doing to reduce the amount of plastic being used in the town hall. Cllr Western has invited the children to visit the Town Hall later this year to see how this is going.

GREEN FINGERS

Our ECO Warriors help to look after the school allotment. This area is shared with Wellfield Junior School. This year we are hoping to grow some vegetables to be used by the school kitchen for our school dinners.

The Groundwork team helped us to complete our bid and to plan our growing area. They visited both schools to deliver workshops with our ECO Warriors. Despite the pouring rain the children helped to measure the outdoor space as well as discuss their ideas for our new development.
Here are some of the images we used for our inspiration!
