Eco Warriors Big Prroject for 23/24
Goal - to achieve the Eco Schools Green Flag Award
Wellfield Eco Committee showed how much they really value the importance of their school, the local environment and the world we live in.
We had our first meeting this half term. After carrying out an environmental review to evaluate our school’s performance against some of the nine Eco topics, such as the biodiversity, environment, energy, waste, litter, healthy living and global awareness. They have started to create an action plan.
The Eco Committee selected to work on waste and the environment (school grounds). They created posters reminding pupils and staff to always put rubbish in the bins
I am so proud of how enthusiastic the Eco Committee was at wanting to spread awareness of environmental issues. They want to lead change both in our school and our local area by making small but significant changes.

ECO Warriors Big Project for 24/25 - Developing the allotment
A few years ago the Groundwork team helped us to plan our proposed allotment area and we put in a joint bid with Wellfield junior school for a grant. Groundwork staff visited both schools to deliver workshops with our ECO Warriors. Despite the pouring rain the children helped to measure the outdoor space as well as discuss their ideas for our new development.
Shortly afterwards came the COVID lockdowns which stalled our plans. However, we are now planning to get things moving again and are hoping to get working with the junior's ECO Warriors and their Kitchen Garden Club team to start getting going with some serious growing. We are hoping to grow vegetables that can be used in our cookery lessons and in the school kitchen. Watch this space!
The Eco Warriors spent a day at Longley Lane Recycling Centre . They had a tour of the site and learnt how recycled waste is separated and then processed.
Longley Lane Recycling Centre Trip
The Eco Warriors were out and about in Ashton Park doing a litter pick . They managed to find a lot of things to fill their bags and helped to keep our local park free from rubbish.
