Parent Champions
Parent Champions
At Wellfield Infant and Nursery School, we believe that strong partnerships between home and school help every child to thrive. To support this, we introduced our Parent Champions initiative in September 2025 as a positive and structured way to listen to parent views and work together to continue improving our school.
What Are Parent Champions?
Parent Champions are a team of volunteer representatives—one or more from each year group—who act as a voice for the wider parent community. They collect the thoughts, questions and feedback of parents in their year group and bring these to our half‑termly meetings with Mrs Thirkill and/or Mrs Douglas.
Their role is to speak on behalf of the cohort, not to raise personal concerns or individual issues. This helps ensure the conversations remain constructive, balanced and focused on the experiences and needs of the wider school community.
Our Vision
The Parent Champions initiative is built on three key aims:
1. Strengthening Communication
We want parents to feel heard, respected and informed. Parent Champions help us maintain awareness of the themes, questions and ideas that matter most to families.
2. Celebrating What We Do Well
Our whole staff team works incredibly hard to provide every child with rich learning experiences, care and support. Parent Champions often help highlight what is working well, celebrate successes and ensure good practice is recognised.
3. Improving Together
We know that we don’t always get everything right, and we are committed to continually learning and improving. By listening to parent voices, we can identify where practice or processes may need adjustment and make changes that benefit children and families.
How the Process Works
- Each half term, Parent Champions meet with the leadership team.
- Feedback is gathered from conversations, informal chats, WhatsApp groups or other communication channels within their year group.
- We discuss strengths, questions and concerns raised collectively by parents.
- Any actions, responses or next steps are communicated openly and transparently so parents can see how their voices have shaped decisions.
Why Parent Champions Matter
This partnership ensures that:
- We stay connected to the day‑to‑day experiences of families.
- Parents have a clear and supportive route for sharing ideas.
- The school can be proactive—not just reactive—in responding to parent needs.
- Continued school development is shaped collaboratively, respectfully and with children at the centre of every decision.
