Welcome
A Welcome from the Headteacher
It is my absolute privilege to welcome you to Wellfield Infant and Nursery School. I am incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of a school at the very heart of its community, where children are truly at the centre of everything we do.
We are immensely proud of our longstanding Outstanding Ofsted rating, which reflects the dedication, skill, and love that underpin our work each day. At Wellfield, we are committed to providing rich, experiential and discovery-based learning, steeped in research and best practice. This approach not only inspires curiosity and creativity but also builds the foundations for lifelong learning and success.
Our staff are exceptional. They are highly trained, passionate, and deeply invested in each and every child. By carefully crafting our curriculum to meet individual needs, they ensure that every child is supported, challenged, and inspired to achieve their very best.
At Wellfield Infant and Nursery School, we truly believe that education is a partnership between school, family, and community. Together, we create a nurturing and ambitious environment where every child can thrive, succeed, and shine.
I am so proud to lead this wonderful school and warmly invite you to explore our website to see the many ways in which we inspire and nurture success every day.
With pride and love,
Mrs Joanne Thirkill
Headteacher

MISSION STATEMENT
Our school motto is "We Inspire and Nurture Success". This motto illustrates our whole school ethos. We strive to provide the best level of care and support for all children and provide an exciting learning environment which promotes learning and collaboration, between pupils and staff and between pupils and their peers as well as collaboration between the staff themselves. In addition to this, staff strive to continuously develop their practice and deliver outstanding teaching so that all pupils achieve their full potential.
The school maintained it's grading of Outstanding in it's last Ofsted inspection which took place in March 2023. In the report Ofsted stated:- Pupils flourish at Wellfield Infant and Nursery School. Pupils, including those in the specially resourced provision for pupils with SEND, engage in purposeful learning activities. As a result, they achieve well in a range of subjects. Children in early years are exceptionally well prepared for key stage 1, while pupils in Year 2 are equipped for the transition to junior school equally well.

Our skilled team of staff are dedicated to ensuring that all of our pupils are offered the best start possible and we encourage our parents and carers to work in partnership with us to support their child's education and development. We have developed a wide range of workshops for our parents and carers which we deliver throughout the year. These offer a deeper insight into the teaching and learning going on in the school and provide ideas for supporting children's learning at home. More information about the workshops can be found in the Parents section of our website.
Confidence in a school comes from knowing and understanding what is happening within it. We feel it is important that mutual understanding and trust should be the basis of our shared responsibility and therefore we operate an "open door" policy at Wellfield, where you are encouraged to come into school at any reasonable time and see at first hand the learning opportunities we provide for all our children. All our parents and carers are invited to come along to our "Stay and Play" taster sessions each year. These sessions are always popular. They offer our families the opportunity to join the children in their classrooms and our outdoor environment so they get a first hand experience of the school in action.
